Robert Peake's traditional art and Matisse's collage art are both discussed in the book Look! Look! Look! In comparing these two approaches to the figure, the student begins to understand the possibilities of diversity in art, while also learning about art history and famous artists throughout the ages.
Again, multimedia presentations are utilized when it is possible to do so. Imagine how the following video can enhance the study of collage and painting, while introducing the students to the work of picture book illustrator Eric Carle: http://www.eric-carle.com/slideshow_paint.html
